[Dean shrugs.] I like to make sure everything's working fine before heading out with it.

[It had nothing to do with his faith in Hiro's abilities. It was just good sense.

And that was an internal cringe. Whatever he says here, Dean's not going to admit that it was pretty much either his life or the tech. And besides:] I can get it back, okay. I'll get it back. Believe me. I don't want him running around with something like that any more than you do.

And he didn't get away. I... banished him. [Which he'd already said. Important semantics.]

[ Auuugh that's still bad. He understands that Dean had to protect himself, but he's still awful leery of people stealing his tech. And the literal devil making off with an experimental new power limiter? Sure does sound like a recipe for disaster. He groans a little, covering his face in his hands. ]

No, just ... Don't be stupid about it and get yourself hurt. But - god, please tell me he's not real good at tech.

[Who have you been talking to, Hiro? "Stupid" is practically Dean's middle name when it comes to ingenious plans. But he's not actually trying to get himself killed either. Not to mention that dying while trying to get back the freaking collar meant that Lucifer would still have it.]

I'll be fine. And no. Being locked in Hell for a few centuries or so has probably kept him out of the modern tech loop. But I still don't want him to have it for too long. [Since, even if Lucifer couldn't figure it out on his own, he might be able to find someone else who could. Dean can't chance that.]

[ Priorities, Dean. Jeez. Hiro makes a disbelieving face - he knows how bad older brothers are about protecting themselves. Probably an expression that Dean's seen on Sam's face many times before. ]

Well I don't either. Look, why don't I just make you an EMP? Then you can disable it without having to fight him again.

[That is an expression that he's used to seeing on Sam's face, and he's actually a pro at doing whatever he wants regardless because greater good, etc. Still, the EMP suggestion gets a considering look.]

Okay. How permanently are we talking about disabling it here? And the EMP wouldn't affect anything else, right?

[But, on the other hand.] There's still a good chance that I'll end up fighting him again until I figure out how to put him on permanent lockdown here. I can't just leave him running around, stirring up shit.

EMPs affect most tech unless it's shielded? So if you need something else, make sure it's protected.

... That I dunno. Not exactly an expert in demons and angels and stuff.

Okay. But it'll permanently disable it? I still need to figure out where he's keeping it though, right? Unless you've got a tracker or something in it.

[Which would actually be a great idea if anything like this happened again.]

That's kind of my job. [Which reminds him.] Here. I brought something for you.

[Dean reaches into his pocket and pulls out a sheet of paper, unfolding it to reveal an odd design drawn in ink.] Just in case. It's an angel banishing sigil, and it'll get rid of Lucifer or any other angel if they're around you. This is important. It has to be drawn using blood and you have to activate it by putting your hand in the circle and your hand has to be bleeding. Drawn with blood, activated with blood. Okay?

[He really has no idea how Hiro will take that, but he'd rather the kid had an out if Lucifer did decide he was interesting for whatever reason. Dean had been way younger than Hiro when he'd first learned about hunting.]

Yep. It's easier to just break something than temporarily knock it out, trust me. ... Do you want a tracker?

[ Because he can do that too. That's easy, honestly; just a simple GPS. He opens his mouth to say as much ... and then there's a sigil. Huh. He turns it around in his hands for a moment - and then startles when the rest of Dean's comment sinks in. Um. ]

A tracker would be handy, actually. Wouldn't take up too much space, would it?

No. But a little blood is better than whatever Lucifer might do. Trust me.

Look. I don't think you'll have to use it, but it's an option. There are other wards, too. Things that'll keep an angel from coming into your house or finding you. Lucifer can't find me unless I tell him where I am and I don't know if he'll go after somebody else instead.

[Basically, Dean cares about you and doesn't want to see you get hurt, so take the damn sigil.]

I get that, but - dude, this is crossing a line into super weird. Like, majorly weird. I'm okay with trying out your weird magic symbols, but is blood really necessary?

For that one it is. It has to be blood. But that's a last resort, alright? I can show you some of the other ones, too, if you want. But hopefully you'll never need them.

He kind of makes a face at the thought of all this but - he was going to learn Charter Magic from Sabriel before it had turned out he'd had zero capability for it. What's the harm in trying this? Sure would be nice to have a last ditch weapon against an angel that might potentially hate him, after all. ]

I guess I can always learn them and never use them.

[This is barely the tip of the iceburg, Hiro. Dean watches him, raises an eyebrow at the face. And that was the reason why he didn't really get close to people. Because they couldn't handle the truth. It doesn't really matter how the kid feels about it though, as long as it keeps him safe.]

Knock yourself out. [He shrugs. Why would he care if Hiro wanted them on his phone? At least they'd be with him.] You want me to send you the others later?

Another angel - a friend - carved them into my ribs. I wouldn't say it was exactly pleasant, but it was fast enough and it's a Hell of a lot better than having angels popping up everywhere we went, trying to get the jump on us.
