[A few days of scares, trying to keep his brother calm, trying to keep their closer friends updated and still keep an eye on what's happening outside the lab?
Busy week.
But he's honestly glad, it's kept Tadashi from getting too worried and scared himself. If Hiro really is contaminated, what then? He wasn't anywhere near a cure and he hadn't heard anything from anyone else in the lab getting close either.
Focus.
Focus on making sure Hiro's even infected first before worrying about a cure, one step at a time. It had taken several days to find results and now he would find out for sure. He takes the look and... Oh thank god. It looks exactly the same as his own, no sign of anything foreign or unusual. He steps over to the small quarantine area he'd hastily set up and knocks on the plexiglass.]
[ It's been an unhappy week for Hiro too, yo-yoing between terror and boredom alternately, with little to keep his mind off the possibility that he might be infected with a fatal zombie disease. Kind of puts a damper on everything. The armor was destroyed - he'd never intended it to be used long anyway - the microbots and toolbot detoxed and set aside close by. So at least he can reach through the plexiglass with his powers and get some work done.
By the end of the week, though, he's taken apart all of the microbots he built, twice, and he's in the process of taking them apart again out of sheer boredom. Tweaking them again, just because there's nothing else to do in here that he's interested. Books? Not in the mood to focus on them. Comm? He's messaged people, of course, but it's awkward when he doesn't want to tell them that he's stuck in a quarantine ward. Pestered the netnavis into coming to visit? ... Yeah okay, that part was nice. But mostly he sleeps and messes with his bots and tries not to think.
Thank god his brother is here or he might have gone crazy from waiting.
He looks up when Tadashi comes over, settling his microbots neatly back down onto the ground. News, huh. He'd almost welcome being infected at this point - at least then he'd know, and he could get out of this agonizing limbo. But he's still nervous when he looks up at his brother. Trying to keep his tone casual even as he searches his brother's expression for clues. ]
[He at least did his best to keep his brother company while machines ran tests and he had nothing to input, so he sat around with him talking or playing games or whatever Hiro wanted to do. But he doesn't look up from the printed results when Hiro asks him, just keeps his head down.]
You sure you wanna know? It's. I mean, it's pretty conclusive, there's no going back once you know.
[ You monster. Hiro's going to punch you in the arm so hard after this.
For now, though, he drops his gaze. Voice trembling a little. Would his brother be saying that if the results were good? He doesn't want to die, okay. ]
W-what other choice do I have? Stay in here forever? Fate worse than death.
[He winces with the microbots, laughing a little. Okay he never gets that chance, he had to. He opens the door to the quarantine area and he'll take everything down once Hiro's out but he's just. He's so relieved.]
[ Two for flinching!! But then he rushes through the door to give his brother a tight hug immediately afterwards, because holy shit he's been wanting to do that all week. He sags with relief against his brother. ]
A jerk that cares a lot about his nerd baby brother.
[But he'll hug him so tight, he's been so worried. Gonna hug him so tight and not let him go. At least until one of them has to breathe, but once Hiro's sagging, he works to hold him upright.]
So, yeah. Good news is you're immune like me, it looks like.
[ Hiro forces himself on his tiptoes to keep hugging then. He's just - glad and so very grateful to be able to hug his brother again. It had been awful quiet in that quarantine room. ]
[Every death-defying experience he's had here, he's chalked up to "Fate won't let me die here because I'm going to die back home," but he can't really explain Hiro's immunity.]
We're not exactly biochemists or anything. Pretty sure Winry or doctor Snow have that covered? But we could help them, I think.
[ Sheer dumb luck, probably. ... Or just some similarity in their genes that happened to repeat itself between the two of them. Hiro sobers, though, at Tadashi's comment. ]
[He rubs at the back of his neck, looking around the room. So just Snow and them, that he knows are working on it. He's not sure who else, he hasn't looked at the network much.
Well. Except one thing he saw. He's not sure he wants to bring up the conversation he saw Hiro having with Crane - partly for Hiro's sake but also partly because he doesn't feel like being angry all over again right now.]
[ Probably for the best; Hiro hasn't breathed a word about seeing a therapist, and really he doesn't intend to. Explaining why he was talking to Crane in the first place would be beyond him right this second. ]
Yeah. Yeah, pretty much.
[ He tries to lighten his tone a little. ]
Good news is, apparently I'm so smart it counts as a superpower, so, y'know. I have to be able to help you figure something out.
[There's that weird feeling again? That thing, in the back of his mind that he got when reading Crane's conversation with Hiro, he hears it's this thing called "anger". Dunno what that is, must be new.
He's definitely going to have a long, long talk with Callaghan when they meet up next week. Ground rules are officially being set.]
If you want, I can help you go back and put them on your other stuff too.
[ And he relaxes a bit. That will take care of his number one concern; he's way less angry about having his intelligence stolen, somehow. Mostly because it's really hard to conceptualize. Which ... reminds him, actually. ]
He got my intelligence too. Said it made everything look kind of weird. Seeing applications for stuff everywhere? Patterns and - figuring things out?
[ And his tone here is clearly not "seeing applications is weird" but rather "but seriously is NOT seeing that stuff normal???" ]
[He hears the tone but honestly he's hearing kill bill-esque sirens in his head. Not only did Callaghan take Hiro's technokinesis and then use his machines but his intelligence too? Something that's as much a part of who Hiro is as a person as Hiro's love for gummy bears and robot anime?
Haha. Hahahaha.]
Mmmmost people don't see stuff like that. I only see some stuff like that, but not everything. Usually only when I'm intending to look for patterns or ways to work around things.

Hey, got some news.

Yeah? ... Good news or bad?

[There's the added 'your funeral' kind of tone to his voice when he says it. But he shakes his head solemnly.]
You're clean. Same as mine.
no subject
Oh my god.
no subject
What, you said you wanted to know!

You're a menace. A no-good rotten jerk.

[But he'll hug him so tight, he's been so worried. Gonna hug him so tight and not let him go. At least until one of them has to breathe, but once Hiro's sagging, he works to hold him upright.]

So we can get working on that cure then, huh?
no subject
Yeah. We're gonna get to working on that cure. Lots of others that need help.
no subject
Who better than us, huh? Shoulda known we'd be too smart for the virus to affect us.

Winry's sick.

[No go back because that's. That's not good. That's super not good.]
Since when?

Over a week ago. So, by now ...

Yeah. Yeah, pretty much.

Good news is, apparently I'm so smart it counts as a superpower, so, y'know. I have to be able to help you figure something out.

Do what. Wait, is that what you were shouting at someone about at the comm the other day?
[Yeah, Tadashi was like. Five feet away when his brother was yelling at Callaghan. Whoops.]
no subject
I - uh. Yeah. Yeah, it was.
[ And his expression sours a little. ]
Callaghan has a second power. Guess what it does.
no subject
[Then the Porter really does have a horrible horrible sense of humor at this entire group's expense.]
no subject
[ He still sounds angry, though he's at least come to terms with the fact that Callaghan's plan was smart, perhaps even necessary. ]
So DNA limiters are going in every single piece of tech I build for myself. From now on.
