[ you know what's weird? texting him when he could get up and walk the whole five steps to his room next door. nearly twenty years in the same room makes the idea of texting his little brother while in the same house seem really... weird. ]

[ hey you're old now too, having a birthday and talking about work? look at you mr adult. there is, however a knock on the door! ]

[ Shut up, okay. He makes sure his comm is not open to his private message box before dropping on his bed and going to open the door. ]

[He leans against the doorframe, flicking through his comm idly making sure he gets how this one works. New tech, new phone OS.]

I was gonna ask, the girl who set up your party, Kitty, right? If you had her number.

[ She set up the party, that means she helped clean it and maybe she found his file. Hoping beyond hopes. ]

[ Given what he was just talking about with Lana, his head is in a different spot for that kind of request. ]

Uh ... Why? I mean, I do, but really?

Just wanted to see if maybe she found my file laying around after the party, I still can't find it anywhere.

[ Poor ignorant soul, this one. ]

[ Oh. Ohhhh. Damn, he was hoping Tadashi would just give up. ]

Are you sure you left it there?

[tadeadshi]

[ As if. If he has superpowers, he wants to know! ]

Had it when I went in, not when I left with you. So it's gotta be there somewhere.

[ He rubs at the back of his neck. ]

Yeah, I guess I remember leafing through it ... It was next to my birthday presents, I think? You could check through my bags.

You sure?

[ They're your things, bro, but if you say so he will. he tiptoes through the carefully arranged mess and sits on the bed pulling the closest bag. There's the big elephant in the room of the conversation he kind-of-sort-of bailed on back at the party, and he hasn't forgotten it! He just. has to work up to it. ]

How's the rest of the stuff here? The phone seems okay but ... [ He glances at the computer Hiro's got, not sure if it's up to snuff. ]

[ It is a little out of character for Hiro, but he also really doesn't want Tadashi to call Kitty to ask about the file. Kitty might have seen him sneaking it away, after all. In any case, it's obviously not anywhere in his gift bags. He does at least lift all of his tech back into the air helpfully so that Tadashi doesn't have to step through quite so much junk. ]

Not bad. I had to frankenstein a couple of decent ones together to get one that runs at the speed I like, but I'd have to do that anyway. Stark has the top-of-the-line stuff in his lab.

[tadeadshi]

Oh yeah? Like, our top of the line or his world top of the line? It's gotta be close if you work there and you're happy about it.

[ Nope, not this bag. He sets it down carefully and reaches for the next. Seriously where did he put that thing? ]

Close enough, yeah. Their 3-D printing isn't quite up to what it should be, but I can fix that. Once I get that ironed out, you'll really see some crazy things happening.

[ He watches Tadashi from his bed, a little guiltily. ]

... Actually, I threw a bunch of wrapping paper away too. It might have gotten put in that same pile.

[tadeadshi]

Shouldn't take you long, the--

Oh, what?

[ He finishes going through the bag on his lap for good measure before setting it down and flopping back against the bed. Maaaaan. He really wanted to see what powers he had too, he knows it has something to do with the buzzing.]

... How'd you figure out your powers?

[ Nothing but candy in that one either. Sorry, bro. ]

Kind of by accident? Stark took me down into his lab and I got this horrible, splitting headache from all the tech.

You felt anything weird so far?

[tadeadshi]

... Kind of?

[ He reaches to get his comm out of his pocket and holds it above his head, feeling the now-familiar tingling sensation in his fingertips and the faint buzz in his ears.]

Like a weird hum? Gets stronger the longer I hold this thing.

[ Hiro sits up a little straighter at that. Yeah, that definitely sounds familiar to him as well. ]

Kind of like a cross between an insect and being inside an MRI machine, right?

[tadeadshi]

[ That gets him looking at Hiro again. ]

... Yeah, something like that. How yours sounds, right?

Exactly like that.

[ Now he's kind of excited about it. ]

So you probably have some kind of technopathy or technokinesis too.

[tadeadshi]

Maybe?

[ He looks back at the phone again, getting a fairly clear picture of the insides of it now. If he focuses enough, he can almost feel it working.

Time to put the phone down on the bed beside him. ]

You said you got headaches being around Stark's tech? I... dunno that I have what you've got, this is only when I touch it.

[microbrobotics]

[ He floats the phone up casually, turning it around in the air. ]

So maybe you've got less range but better control. Or maybe I'm just all-around better at superpowers than you.

[tadeadshi]

Ha ha.

[ Did you miss these talks, Hiro, because there's more where it came from. But he watches Hiro mess around with his phone, all the feeling and buzzing gone now. ]

I was testing it some earlier at the party and it only happens when I touch it. [ Or anything else with mechanical bits, he noticed when he set the alarm on his desk clock. ] Gotta be some other test we can try without risking destroying your stuff.

[ It is kind of nice, actually. He's kind of just pleasantly happy all through this, especially when Tadashi pulls a typical brother move. ]

So let's grab something I've already half-destroyed. There's plenty of junk in here I wouldn't mind losing. Here, I've got a failed Baymini I screwed up on.

[ He floats one over. Looks like he soldered incorrectly and how the whole inside motherboard is busted beyond repair. And he can't install a new one without taking breaking the little guy apart. Poor thing. ]

[tadeadshi]

[He watches it and reaches for the little guy once it's in arm's reach. And instantly the buzzing is back, and what's more, Tadashi can almost tell right away he's not in any kind of operational condition. He carefully turns it over in his hands, letting the sensations in his fingertips guide him to the problematic motherboard in question.]

Jeez... What'd you do to this poor little guy? I mean, besides solder the wrong thing.
