[MoM] Memory post!
[ You’re on a small bridge somewhere - park maybe? Or a university campus, given the various glass buildings visible in the distance. But you’re not looking at any of that. All your attention is on the tall guy standing next to you. Your older brother, Tadashi. For a while now, you’ve barely seen him - it feels like he’s always been working at his stupid nerd school, not doing his old projects with you any more. Of course that's not the literal truth and you knew that, but it's not like your heart felt any better for it.
But now you’re going to attend his nerd school. Your project was a huge success. Now you’ll have all the time in the world, just the two of you. You’re still a little stunned at the thought, not quite accepting the pure joy this instills in you. This is the thing you've been wanting, really wanting all along. Nothing else in the world matters except the elation humming in your veins.
Then … suddenly, the fire alarms go off in the building you just left. Isn’t that the exhibition hall? You think of your microbots and their transmitter still sitting inside the hall - and then you and Tadashi are off like a shot. By the time you get back to the hall, the entire place is on fire. Flames leap from the doors and windows, singeing the front of your face with heat. You take a step back. “Tadashi, we’ve got to get out of here.”
He turns back towards you, like he might listen — then one of the other students run past. They say Dr. Callaghan’s still in here. Tadashi’s mentor, the one that gave you the scholarship to begin with. As soon as you see that look in Tadashi's eye, you know what he's going to do. So you reach out for him to try and stop him, to hold him back from the fire that's quickly filling your stomach with cold lead. You call out for him: “Tadashi, don’t go!”
He turns back towards you. “Callaghan’s still in there. Someone has to help.”
Of course it’s Tadashi. Of course it is, big stupid idiot with his big stupid heart. You race after him after he disappears into the building, but you’re too late. You don’t get five steps before the entire building explodes. The shockwave throws you to the ground, but you can hear yourself screaming anyway. Calling out for your brother.
Too late. Tadashi is gone. ]
